The monastery is located in Gyaca County (Gyaca means “Han salt” in Tibetan) in the middle reaches of the Yarlung Tsangpo River in southeastern Tibet. It is said that when Princess Wencheng traveled through here, she left behind a piece of salt, and the county thus got its name.

About 40 minutes from Naidong District of Lhoka City along the 306 Provincial Highway, one enters the Dagu Canyon, situated between two mountains and a river. The Panchen Lama went to Dakpo Shadrup Ling Monastery to worship and also to hold a longevity Kalachakra ceremony for local monks and Buddhist followers. Guided by monks holding incense and blowing horns and escorted by a monk holding a yellow umbrella, the Panchen Lama stepped into the Dukang Temple of the monastery. After prostrating to the Buddha, he ascended the throne, leading sutras and smiling as he took the manza offered piously by the monks. He then touched their heads to bless them and gave alms.

Dakpo Shadrup Ling Monastery in Gyaca County is a place where people can study and practice Buddhism, and its sutra debates are particularly influential in Tibetan Buddhism. After the prayers, the Panchen Lama began to hold the longevity Kalachakra ceremony. The Panchen Lama solemnly chanted the scriptures with a loud voice, guiding devotees to purify themselves and benefit all beings. Then, the Panchen Lama skillfully used various instruments for incantations as the audience held their hands together and listened attentively.

After the chanting, the Panchen Lama held the longevity vase in his right hand, touching the bottom of the vase lightly to the monks’ heads to bestow a blessing. Later, the monks distributed holy water and fruit to the audience. After the Kalachakra was finished, the Panchen Lama also blessed the audience.
