Zhalang Monastery is located in Paya village, at the northwest of Banghe Township, Daocheng County, Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province.
At the north of the monastery, there is a mountain named “Zhalang” which is like a lion in shape, and that’s how the monastery got its name.
Firstly built by Chophel Weire, the apprentice of Drugong Chopo in Song Dynasty, the monastery enjoys a history of more than 600 years and is the largest Sakya monastery in Daocheng.
During its noontide, there were about thousands of monks from Qacheng, Litang and Muli counties.
