Tibetan operas performed on Wuzhen’s street
With a history of over 600 years, Tibetan operas have been included in the Intangible Cultural Heritage List since 2009 by UNESCO.
On the afternoon of October 24, Tibetan operas, dubbed as “the living fossil” of Tibetan culture were first performed in the 5th Wuzhen Theater Festival. Many tourists watched and marveled at the amazing art.
With the ancient Tibetan pronunciation and good plots, Tibetan operas are quite worth watching. However, because of little publicity, a lot of people barely know them.
Tibetan operas performed in the festival are Riwoche Jiongba ones from Ngangring County, Shigatse City, Tibet Autonomous Region.
These 30 performers are all local farmers and herdsmen and this is their first time to perform Tibetan operas in Han-inhabited areas.
