To protect and inherit Tibetan ethnic music and dance art, Tibet will systemically collect, sort out and digitalize Tibetan folk music, court music, Tibetan opera as well as religious music for the first time for establishing an original Tibetan music database. Xinhua reported.
"It will cost 4 to 5 years to collect, record and sort out all kinds of Tibetan music and dances. Establishing the original Tibetan music database not only promotes cultural inheritance and protection work, but creates a complete industrial chain focusing on experience, creation, issuing, as well as derivative products development and trading of excellent Tibetan ethnic music," according to Shi Yu, vice-general manager of Tibet Tianli Company.
"Tibetan ethnic music is facing the impact of foreign culture and puzzle of how to achieve its sustainable development. Setting up the Tibetan music database and fully displaying Tibet's music culture could effectively protect and carry forward the ethnic music culture of Tibet," said Moelam Dorje, president of Tibet Autonomous Regional Musicians Association.
