“2016 Touching Transport” award, jointly organized by Ministry of Transport of China and All-China Federation of Trade Unions, announced the results in Beijing on April 25.
The award honored 10 people as China transport’s inspiring models of 2016.
Chimed Dorji, head of a postal driving team in Garze County Post, was one of the winners of “2016 Touching Transport”. He was also the only successfully selected candidate in Sichuan Post.
“I am very thrilled. The credit belongs to all postal staff working along the postal route on the snowy plateau.” Chimed Dorji, who has been driving postal vehicles along the postal route on western Sichuan Plateau for 28 years, said with tears in eyes.

The postal route on the snowy plateau mentioned by Chimed Dorji is 604km long at an altitude of 2,500m to 5,000m. More exactly, it is the Garze section of Sichuan-Tibet postal way, starting from Kangding, climbing over Mt. Zedo, Xiangpi Mountain, etc. and ending at Dege County.
Landforms are complex and weather is changeable there. This route has been in service for 63 years since the operation of Sichuan-Tibet Highway in December 1954. It is the main way to connect Tibet Autonomous Region, Sichuan and other places via postal communication.
During 28 years, Chimed Dorji drove over the 6,168m high Mt. Que’ershan about 20 times a month with no liability accidents.
He dedicates his life to connecting the postal route between Sichuan and Tibet to serve the society.
This event has been successively held for four years since 2013.
