Awang Sheep Fattening Base in Konjo County

Awang sheep is a special breed on the Qinghai-Tibet Highland. Its body size is bigger and taller than general sheep, possessing good development potential and economic value. For a long time, Awang sheep which are cultivated in Henduanshan mountainous areas in Konjo County, Chamdo City, Tibet Autonomous Region, are rarely known to the outside world.

In 2015, poverty-alleviation projects were carried out in Konjo County. By applying the operating method of “company bases + cooperatives + farmers”, the Awang Sheep Fattening Base was built with an investment of over 42 million yuan. In addition, Awang sheep is applying for the geographical indications protection product and tries to become the leading industry to lead the local people get rid of poverty.

Now there are 20 households and 54 people in the Happy Village which is located nearby the base. They resettled down here 20 years ago. Due to lack of land, the channel for them to get rich is very narrow. While the construction of Awang Sheep Fattening Base brings new hope for local poor people to get rich.
