Zhongan Village, Aba County, Sichuan Province, is a typical village with half farmers and half herdsmen, which is 40 km away from the county downtown. It’s heavily-struck by Kaschin-Beck disease. Many villagers are bothered by the disease.
Ngokja, 61, has been serving the villagers for 44 years. Owning to his disease of rheumatic arthritis and Kaschin-Beck disease, all fellow villagers gave him a nickname, “the cripple doctor”.
Ngokja said he had had the Kaschin-Beck disease since he was a kid. And it was miserable. Thus, he was wondering if he could help with villagers’ illnesses when he become a doctor.
Two rooms of the villager are not only Ngokja’s home, but also the healthcare center in the village. When entering it, they could only see two medicine kits, some medicine, a syringe and several pieces of gauze. They are all the medicinal facilities. Though the medical conditions are poor, villagers show trust on him.

Ngoshul, Xia’an Villager said, “ I live in Xia’an village which is over 20 km away from here. When we are feeling bad, we will ask him for help. He’s friendly and has good skills.”
When giving an injection to a patient, Ngokja received a phone call. He learnt that Tselema, an 85-year-old, was troubled by high blood pressure again. After talking on the phone, he went to her home immediately.
Tserkyi, the daughter of Tselema told us that her mom had high blood pressure again. It has been always doctor Ngoshul who treated her. And today he helped her one more time. Now, her mom feel relieved with blood pressure falling.
Except providing medical services in the village, he will serve the herdsmen on the pasture at regular intervals.
Over several decades, he never gives up studying. There are many categories of medical books on his bookshelf. Though he is old, he will read books in the hope of promoting his medical levels if he is available.
Ngokja never thinks of giving up his career. With villagers’ trust, he will serve them until the last minute of his life.
However, he’ s over 60. It’s hard for him to treat patients outside. So, he wants to find someone to replace him.
