July 7 (Kangba TV)--In the northern suburb of Lhasa, there's a race course, which serves as a landmark of the city. Those who are not familiar with it will be confused by the multifunctional park at the entrance. They may take it as a mere locale for people to do physical exercise. Only when you keeping going inside will you find something special. On the stadium which faces the center of rostrum, there's a statue of horseman who practices archery on the caprioling horse. The entire statue is glittering, but is overshadowed by the galloping horse and rider.
You can see dozens of riders who practice riding on the two straight runways of the stadium every day. They are the young members of Tibetan Equestrian Team. The entire race course is their daily training ground. It is these team members that make the race course live up to its reputation.

Young as the members are (their average age is 20), Tibetan Equestrian Team has witnessed a history of 30 years. In 1986, with the support of the 10th Panchen Lama and the approval of the government of the autonomous region, Tibetan Equestrian Team was established. Later, over 40 sportsmen were recruited to receive training in Inner Mongolia Equestrian Team from various cities in the autonomous region.
In the second year, the youngsters came back and presented a report-back performance to citizens of Lhasa in Tibetan New Year Festival. The wonderful performance won applauses and cheers. People exclaimed that they can see professional equestrian performance in front of their houses.
The successful performance laid a solid mass foundation for Tibetan Equestrian Team. Since then, riders had been receiving strict training every day. Scorching as the sun was, they cannot beat a retreat. Therefore, the team members' skin are all dark.

In fact, watching equestrian performance is a time-honored tradition in the vast Tibetan areas. In grand festivals such as Tibetan New Year and Shoton Festival, wonderful equestrian performance is a must. Watching horse race on the third day of Tibetan New Year is believed to bring good luck to the forthcoming year.
Through toilsome trainings, Tibetan Equestrian Team enjoys popularity among people, and carries off prizes in various domestic events. Along the corridor of the office building of the team, there are numerous trophies won by the team members, whose efforts finally pay off with glory.
