Caulis Spatholobi bracelets are one of Tibet's oldest types of jewelry. In Tibetan language it is referred to as 'ba', which is a natural herb grown at an altitude of 4,000 meters. It can only be harvested for two months of the year (from September to November, the most precious vines are picked). Because it contains ingredients vital to Tibetan medicine, its collection is limited, making it even more precious.
The vine comes from the Dapa Shri sacred mountain of Lhoka Prefecture, and in the past the bracelets were made by lamas in the temple. These bracelets were worn on the wrist and could ease joint pain. Because the vines are from the foot of the sacred mountain these bracelets are also very auspicious.
The vine bracelet has different segments. Every few centimeters, wooden vine knots on the bracelet divide the segments of the bracelet. According to Tibetan folklore, the knots of these bracelets are the embodiment of Dakini, a supreme goddess. Therefore almost everyone wears these bracelets for protection and to ward off evil.
Caulis Spatholobi is famous in Tibetan medicine for dispelling the negative effects of wind and dampness. This plant's phloem is russet-colored, ring-shaped and has a dense secretory duct. The tubes are filled with red secretion substances, such as tannin, reductive sugar and resin. Rattan bracelets are made of this plant's vine.
The vines grow naturally and are flexible, so all that is needed is to simply resize and form its new shape. Wearing these bracelets for long durations of time will ease blood circulation, relieve joint and nerve pain, and will help treat joint pain fro rheumatism.
The bracelet is worn around the wrist. With the friction between the vine and skin, the surface of the bracelet touching the skin will become smooth, making the bracelet become sleek and smooth.
It is best to keep these bracelets out of water. Long exposure to water will deteriorate its efficacy and gloss. It is therefore recommended to remove the bracelet when bathing. Not wearing the bracelet for long periods of time may also dry the bracelet, so olive oil can be used to treat the bracelet and ensure it is smooth. A bracelet will become more beautiful in color over time the longer it is worn.
How to pick a vine bracelet?
Do not choose one that will snap. Some knot of a vine may have already been cut, so these remaining parts cannot be selected since they will crack more easily.
Select a smooth and plump vine.
Select a red vine-the darker the color, the better.
Choose thick vines: Generally vines that are 8mm are most appropriate. Any thickness above 10mm can easily fold in on the inside wall which will affect the appearance of the bracelet.
