Currently, tickets for the Potala Palace must be ordered in advance, due to the growing number of tourists. Tour groups can book tickets through the online booking system one day earlier. Individual travelers need to take permission tickets at the reservation office of the site's tickets. The Potala Palace has received almost 3,000 tourists every day, a year-on-year increase of 1,000.
According to the administration for the Potala Palace, with the promotion of "winter tours in Tibet-enjoy the world's third pole", all A-class tourist attractions in Tibet are open to tourists and citizens for free from Feb 1 to April 30. Those preferential policies have attracted lots of tourists to travel to Tibet.
Tickets for the Potala Palace must be made reservation. Besides, the number of visitors is limited at different times of the day. All those institutions are made to minimize damage to the earth structure and to protect cultural relics in Potala Palace.
Potala Palace, an architectural wonder in the world, was included on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1994.
