It is learned from Tibet Autonomous Region Meteorological Administration that the ultraviolet radiation in Lhasa has reached the strongest level. Protection from the sun is needed for outdoor activities there.
According to Drolkar, a leading expert of meteorological service center of Tibet Autonomous Region Meteorological Administration, the probability of a sunny day in Tibet in spring, autumn and winteris over 95 percent. Therefore, ultraviolet radiation in these three seasons is strong.
In summer,it rains a lot at night, but the UV is still strong in the daytime as it is always sunny.
“Though it rains more in the daytime in the last several years compared with that of the past and the ultraviolet radiation has been weaker, ultraviolet radiation from June to August still remains to be the strongest,” Drolkar said.
Ultraviolet radiation is the biggest killer responsible for skin aging. Generally, sunhats, parasols and sunglasses are used to prevent sunburn rather than suntan. Hence, sunscreen is needed even when people wear sunhats.
It is recommended to apply sunscreen once every two hours when exposed to sunlight.
