During "the 12th Five-Year Plan", Tibet carried out rural dilapidated houses renovation as well as declaration of traditional villages and national key towns, according to the Housing and Construction department of Tibet Autonomous Region.

As a result, living conditions of farmers and herdsmen were greatly improved. The region's 138 towns were included as national key towns.

It is reported that since rural dilapidated houses renovation was carried out in 2009, Tibet has totally complete renovation of 357,200 households with an investment of 2.704 billion yuan RMB.

11 ancient villages were successfully approved as Chinese traditional villages. Besides, Chinese traditional dwelling survey was made and genealogical classification and compilation work of Tibet's traditional dwelling was completed. 27 kinds of Tibet's traditional dwellings were listed in "Chinese traditional dwelling classification collection".
