The Drathang Monastery Fresco Art Museum, the first of its kind in Tibet, was opened on Jul. 8, 2013.

Frescos in Drathang Monastery are masterpieces mainly created in the "Second Period of Dissemination of Tibetan Buddhism" (about 11th century), basing on painting techniques of Tubo Kingdom (618-842 A.D.) and blending artistic styles from India, Nepal and China’s Dunhuang. They are well-preserved with great academic and scientific research values.

Frescos in Tibet lively depict and record local history, folk custom, religious development, and social progress. They are painted with pigments either mineral or plant-based and never fade by adding animal glue and fel bovis.
