Gyantse Dzong or Gyantse Fortress is a key cultural relic under state-level protection and a national patriotism education base. With an altitude of over 4,187 meters above the sea level, Gyantse Dzong is located in the centre of the ancient city named Gyantse. Due to its special geographical location and convenient transportation, the city is considered as one of the most prominent place in the history of Tibet. Moreover, Gyantse is often referred as the "Hero City" because of the determined resistance of the Tibetans against far superior forces during the British expedition to Tibet in 1904.
