"Tso” means "lake" in Tibetan language which is believed to be reincarnations of deities according to local fairy tales, so tourists are easy could easily recognize the lake name among a list of scenic spots as they are either ended or began with the characters "tso". For example, the well-known Namtso Holy Lake.

Tibet, perching on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau which is claimed land closest to the sun, occupies 1,500 lakes, big and small, with an area of 24,000 sq. km., taking up one third of China's lake area.

Observed from the air, the lakes scatter about the highland like pearls. As a song goes, "The lake water dubbed the highland is a tear lying on the surface of the earth."

 

Buddhists believe their former and next lives can be reflected on the surface of the Lhamoi Lhatso.

Travelers said:"Who hasn't visited a lake in Tibet personally cannot proclaim he or she has been there." However, it would cause you a headache to choose which lake to visit first for each has its own distinction, and no one could ever visit them all in a single trip.

The Lake Manasarovar of Ngari in the west of Tibet attracts visitors with its religious status since it is regarded as the "center of the world" in the heart of Buddhism and Bonists. Namtso is famous for the breathtaking sunrise and sunset. Yamzhog Yumco is known for pure blue water while the Buddhists believe their former and next lives can be reflected on the surface of the Lhamoi Lhatso. Where to go, it's up to you.
