Tibetan opera training class opened in Tibet

Tibetan opera has many art varieties and genres and it is renowned as the "living fossil" of Tibetan language. In 2009, it was chosen in the UNESCO Human Intangible Cultural Heritage Representative List. Protecting, inheriting and developing Tibetan opera is meaningful to carry forward national spirit, increase the cohesion of the Chinese nation, safeguard national unification and national unity, as well as promote economic development and social progress.

To cultivate a batch of Tibetan opera talents as well as promote the inheritance, innovation and development of Tibetan opera, the Tibetan opera training class opened in the Tibetan Opera Troupe of Tibet Autonomous Region in April 8. 45 Tibetan opera business backbones and management talents from Qinghai, Gansu and cities (prefectures) in Tibet will take prat in the 60-day training class.

The courses of this training includes Tibetan opera history, basic behavioral essentials, classic performance skills, singing and percussion music gist. The content of this training focuses on practical skills training, which is helpful to improve comprehensive abilities and promote the inheritance and development of Tibetan opera career.

In addition, famous Tibetan opera artists, researchers, and scholars will teach theoretical knowledge, display representative and excellent operas, hold seminars, and record good opera works of various genres that take part in the training. Besides, report-back performances will be carried out after the training in accordance with training contents.

Bian Wangchug, director of Tibetan Opera Troupe, says, “Tibetan opera has many branches and genres. At present, there are 141 Tibetan opera teams in Tibet and each team has their own characteristics. Folk Tibetan opera teams and professional Tibetan opera teams all have their won advantages. I hope this training can enrich and improve the Tibetan opera art of all genres in terms of singing style and acting postures, so as to promote the inheritance and development of Tibetan opera.”
