Lhamoi Lhatso Lake is located in Jiacha county of Lhoka City and the lake surface located at an elevation of 5000 meters. Yet, the total area of the lake is not even 2 square kilometers.

The Tibetan Buddhists believe that this is a sacred lake and it is said if pray sincerely from your heart at the lake’s edge, people with similar karma will be able to see into their past life through the reflection on the lake.

Every year, many believers make a pilgrimage there to have a look. Many people say that the lake has the appearance of a mirror. Some people say it looks like the tear from an eye while others think it looks like a bone. Yet according to sayings in Tibetan Buddhism, the lake is the spiritual location of the fierce female protective deity. In Tibetan, the meaning of this goddess is precisely the “spiritual domain of the heavenly woman”.

Every time a significant monk passes away, use of “the mirror of the lake” is an indispensable procedure in the process of verifying reincarnations. Senior monks can confirm the direction of inquiry through the reflection on the lake. It will even be possible to see the details of the environment in which the reincarnation is residing. All of this has bestowed onto the lake a strong mystical feeling that attracts those on searches for truth in this world.
