Thangka Art Exhibition kicks off at the headquarter of UNESCO

PARIS, Nov. 14 (Kangba TV) -- Spotlight on Chinese Ink Painting – Thangka Exhibition, hosted by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and China International Cultural Communication Center, kicked off at the headquarter of UNESCO, Paris, France, November 11.

More than 300 people concerned, including officials of UNESCO, diplomatic officers to the UNESCO of member countries, personages from France’s artistic sectors and representatives of overseas Chinese in France, attended the opening ceremony.

Long Yuxiang noted that, Thangka is a painting art of Tibetan ethnic group and also an important carrier of Tibetan culture, which has been passed down from thousands of years ago.

The 20 Regong Thangka pieces exhibited were created in the 13th century, and are quintessence of Tibetan Buddhist art.

In 2009, Regong Thangka was included in the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.

Ms. Irina Bokova spoke highly of Thangka art.

Visitors of the exhibition also recognized Thangka art as a prominent representative of human intangible cultural heritage.
