According to www.newssc.org, on the morning of September 26, Erlangshan Tunnel linked up, connecting Tianquan County of Ya’an City and Luding County of Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. It is hailed as the longest tunnel to Tibetan-inhabited areas.

It is the first super long tunnel connecting the Chengdu Plain and Garze Tibetan-inhabited area as well as a key part of Ya’an-Kangding Highway.

The 13.4km long Erlangshan Tunnel sits in the junction zone of plates with complicate geological conditions. Geological disasters such as rock burst, large deformation of soft rock, gushing mud, gushing water, etc. have brought great difficulties to the tunnel construction.

The operation of Erlangshan Tunnel will shorten the climbing time of Erlang Mountain to 15 minutes, 45 minutes less than traveling through national highway No. 318. The tunnel can also improve travel safety by avoiding snow and nilas.
