Thangka promotes the communication between Qinghai and Hong Kong

TONGREN, July 10 (Kangba TV) -- "2018 Thangka Workshop – Mainland Internship Program for Junior Thangka Painters", hosted by the Qinghai-Hong Kong Youth Communication Promotion Association, was launched in Tongren County, Qinghai Province, July 7.

13 students from Hong Kong will study Thangka painting skills in the following 40 days.

Besides learning painting Thangka, students also have opportunities to communicate with Thangka painters and get to know the expression of feelings in Thangka painting.

Tongren County, Huangnan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province, also known as "Regong", meaning the golden valley, is hailed as "hometown of Tibetan paintings".

Regong Art of Tongren County, featuring Thangka paintings, was included in the intangible cultural heritage list of UNESCO in 2009.

Wu Hanzhong, chairman of Qinghai-Hong Kong Youth Communication Promotion Association, introduced that, the event aims to enhance the cultural communication between Hong Kong and Qinghai via Thangka, and provide opportunities for Hong Kong students to learn the traditional culture and profound accumulation of Tibetan Buddhism, including the Thangka painting skills.

According to Wu Hanzhong, the Thangka training program is one of the communication events between Qinghai and Hong Kong, and more cultural activities will be carried out to improve the communication in other sectors.

"I got to know Tibetan culture when I traveled to Tibet four years ago. I appreciated the exquisite Thangka paintings. I am lucky to have the opportunity to learn Thangka art in its birthplace and I’m looking forward to the training in the next 40 days," said Chen Yuqi, a student from The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
