Losar, the Tibetan New Year, is approaching, and prayer flagpoles are a must to celebrate the New Year. Every Tibetan household will place prayer flagpoles on their roofs on a certain day after the Tibetan New Year to pray for a good harvest and good luck in the coming year.
Every year from the twelfth month of the Tibetan calendar, Tibetans begin making these prayer flagpoles. The order of the five color flags is fixed. From top to bottom are: blue, white, red, green and yellow, corresponding to five phenomena in nature. The blue flags represent the sky; the white flags represent the clouds; the red flags represent fire; the green flags represent water; the yellow flags represent the earth.
