The elevation of this border region is drastically lower than most part of the Tibetan Plateau, making it one of the most rainy and humid places in Tibet.

Due to a lack of infrastructure, Lebugou used to be isolated from the outside world. However, in recent years, the local government has been promoting tourism in the region by building more homestay hotels and restaurants, and repopulating the area with residents from other areas.
