Lhasa, capital of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, has focused on the upgrading of tourism industry, the development of its tourism image and the improvement of tourist facilities. With multiple projects related to tourism, Lhasa has seen a rise of 15 percent and 20 percent in the number of tourists and tourism revenue.

When spring comes, flowers along Lhasa's streets are in full bloom, attracting more visitors to travel to this “holy city”. Lhasa received 271,400 tourists from home and abroad during three-day May Day holiday, a year-on-year increase of 31.17 percent. The visitors brought 215 million yuan in tourism revenue, a growth of 58.08 percent compared with the same period last year. The prosperity of tourism market during the May Day holiday is just a epitome of the development of Lhasa’s tourism industry in recent years.

The quality and quantity of public facilities related to tourism are closely connected with the tourist volume. This year will see the great efforts in the improvement of tourism traffic, the construction of Lhasa's north ring road for tourism, the running of tour sightseeing bus and the pilot airport shuttle bus, the promotion of one-day tour in downtown, and the operation of special tour line to Nam co. In addition, Lhasa will continue to move forward with "toilet reform". It is expected that the number of public toilets that are rebuilt will reach 721, improving the conditions in tourist toilets in all respects.

Chen Changjun, a director of Lhasa's Tourism Development Committee, said, "We will accelerated the construction of tourist service center. Tsechokling tourist distribution center will be completed within this year. We will build Tibet’s largest tour service center."

Ms. Li, a tourist from China's Guang Dong province, said, "This is her second time traveling to Lhasa. Today's Lhasa is cleaner than that of six years ago. Moreover, the services on scenic spots are more perfect. We have more choices for enjoying cultural tour items."

According to Chen, Lhasa will continue to promote the upgrading of facilities related to tourist reception service. "Lhasa is expected to welcome over 18 million tourists in 2018, generating more than 27 billion yuan in tourism revenue," said Chen.
